13 Places Good for an Office When You Don’t Have the Money to Rent One
Choosing a good place for an office when you’re on a tight budget is challenging. And it is also a challenge that should be faced by a small start-up business owner. But no need to worry, as I will provide you with a list of some of the most unique and least expensive locations for your office you might even not thought of. So what choices do you have? Read on.
1.Garage
Converting the garage into an office is not a bad idea at all. You can easily convert a portion of your garage into your own office by putting up some dividers and then placing computers, chairs, desks, and some design into it.
2.Your Parent’s Home
“Moving in” with your parents again can save you a lot of expenses. You don’t need to sleep there but you can locate your office in your parent’s home if you can’t afford to rent elsewhere. This is particularly recommended for people who live in tight spaces.
3. Your In-law’s Home
Just when you think you’ve had it made by living separately from your parent’s, you find out that it’s time to go back…to your spouse’s parents. If your parents are located out of state, then locating your offices on your in-law’s home is your next option.
4. The Attic
Most attics have a relatively large area which can be used as your office. The attic will provide you with the privacy you need to concentrate on work. This dedicated working area is ideal because it is located on your own home as well.
5. The Basement
A lot of entrepreneurs start out in their basements. This area is a highly functional place that lets you get the job done. You just need to deal with dampness and moisture is all.
6. Your Bedroom
If you have a large bedroom, you might want to consider putting your office there as well. Some people recommend putting a divider between the sleeping area and the working area though.
7. Spare Bedroom
Any vacant spot in your home can be used as the home office. But using a spare bedroom as an office has its advantages because it of its convenience and privacy. It’s just a matter of finding the right furniture to get you going.

If you have no other spot in the house, set up your office in the family room. Though if you have children it is hard to concentrate when your kids are playing and running around the area, you can get the work done when they’re at school.

If you’re operating a mobile business, your car is your best asset. Not only can it transport you from one place to another, you can also get your source of living out of it.
12. A Van/trailer
If you don’t know where else to locate your business (ie. you don’t have space, your parents live out of state, etc) then use your van as your office. You’ll even have the advantage of having all important paperwork with you while on the go.
13. Warehouse
Renting warehouse space is far cheaper than renting actual office space. Why not rent a tiny warehouse and put your office there? Who needs windows at work anyways?
