Cheap and Effective Ways to Advertise Small Business

7 September 2008 72 views One Comment

Promoting small businesses can be tricky. This is particularly because most small companies don’t have the necessary budget to use the usual advertising medium. You shouldn’t let this hinder you from getting the word out though. Besides using radio, print ads, television ads, and direct mail, there are countless other innovative ways to advertise small businesses.

Here is a list of things you should try out:

  • Be involved in community events – chamber of commerce meetings, town fairs, or any other types of businesses can help you meet with your target customer directly. It can be an effective way to spread the word about your business. Remember to smile, bring business cards, and be confident about your business.

  • Give a free class – again, chamber of commerce is a valuable resource. You can try giving free classes in schools and other organizations as well. These classes can be your venue in promoting your business as well.

  • Contribute an article for a publication – being published in a recognized newspaper or magazine can generate a lot of publicity. In fact, if you submit a good enough article, you can even cover an entire newspaper page complete with pictures. You won’t only get free advertising space; you are likely to get paid as well for your efforts.

  • Generate referrals from existing clients – word of mouth marketing highly effective. If you have a large client base, be sure to tap into its potential. Who knows, these clients can entice their family and friends to buy from you as well.

  • Host a networking event – various groups conduct meeting for business card exchanges. You can host your own networking event. Not only will it let you connect with others on a more personal level, this can serve as the advertisement of your business as well.

  • Place a classified ad in yellow pages – having your business placed in the yellow pages can let more people know about your business. Even in today’s internet age, the yellow pages are still a valuable resource.

  • Use social media – the internet is one of the least expensive but effective ways to advertise your business. Creating your blog and networking with others online will help you gain credibility and form new relationships.
