Don’t Get Stuck in Your Dreams
Small business and marketing seem to be the two things that attract dreamers and visionaries. There are endless possibilities in these fields because the marketer’s mind is not confined in a box. Seems like the perfect ingredient for success, right? Not always.
Dreams, visions, and ambitions can sometimes be the obstacle to your success. In fact, marketers can even fall into the “ambition trap” and be stopped right on their tracks.
So what exactly is the ambition trap?
Have you ever experienced having a great marketing idea? It can be about a new product, a new marketing campaign, or the launch of a new website.
As you start thinking about its implementation, you suddenly come up with another great idea. Happily, you go down to work. But it hits you, another great idea about your distribution strategy. Pretty soon, it is followed by countless strings of ideas.
Now, this is not bad in itself. The only problem is you get so caught up in dreaming that once you stop and go right down to it, you realize you need millions of dollars to make your dreams come to fruition. You get so pulled in into your vision that you neglect to get any real work done.
Tips to avoid the ambition trap
Plans, vision, and ambitions are incredible gifts to have. In fact, all these are requirements in starting a small business. The trick to using this advantage is setting it aside when you need to do some immediate work. Use your visions when they’re advantageous but learn how to store it aside when it isn’t realistic.
A great way to save these ideas is to write it on paper. Place it in a special folder for future plans if it isn’t practical at this point. Save even the most incredible of ideas, who knows, it can yet come true. A lot of stranger things have happened and believing in you can definitely bear fruit.
So file up those plans and concentrate on the present. Your productivity right now can be your stepping stone in making all your dreams come true.
