With food inflation shooting up and the situation not helped by the astronomically-high gas prices, сonsumers are tightening their belts almost literally. Everyone is looking for ways to cut corners from skipping meals to cutting back on electricity. But amidst crazy solutions to save money, there are brilliant ideas as well. Here are 14 absurd ways to save money each month for your business. Who knows, these tips may seem absurd right now but it can be the “brilliant” solution later on.
- Bake cookies…on your car – who knew that baking chocolate cookies from the heat of your automobile is possible. Park your car under the heat of the sun and get a thermometer to help you know the temperature. Protect the dashboard by placing a sheet over it. When the temperate hits 95%, it will take your cookies around two hours to cook.
- Turn off your moving car – saving gas just became more innovative. Using the car’s momentum, you can move downhill or glide into parking spaces without using any fuel. Just be sure you know how to drive without power brakes and power steering. By the way, the American Automobile Association advices against this technique.
- Reuse plastics – you hear this all the time. Reusing plastics can mean financial savings and environmental benefits. This also includes reusing your sandwich bags.
- Make your own supplies – cleaning supplies can put a dent on your household budget. Put a stop to this spending by using lemons and vinegars as cleaners for your kitchen and bathroom.
- Pay your debts – everyone seems to be saving money or at least trying to. But if you owe some debts especially on your credit cards, pay it off first. It provides longer-term benefits.
- Move back into your parent’s home – moving back with your parents isn’t a silly thing to do, it’s a practical option. Your parents can help take care of your child and you won’t need to pay off the monthly mortgage amortization.
- Stop drinking your favorite beverages – unless your favorite beverage is water, you need to cut back on your cola and juice spending. It can significantly add up to your savings. Going “cold turkey” is a definite consideration in these tough times.
- Eliminate your carpet – cleaning the carpet can be expensive. It requires regular steaming, shampooing, and vacuuming.
- Buy in bulk – you can take advantage of volume discounts when you buy in bulk. Just remember that you should not buy things you won’t use more than once or twice in bulk because you think you’ll “save money” from it.
- Use coupons – coupons can provide cost savings when you do your grocery shopping. It is one of the easiest ways to save money.
- Get rid of your home landline phone – how many times do you use your landline in a month? You can count it on your fingers, right? Getting rid of your landline will not do much damage to you if your answer is yes.
- Avoid going to the car wash – wash your car yourself. Money is literally going down the drain if you pay money for this service.
- Cut your own hair – anyone with a pair of scissors can cut hair. Give it a go and you just might be satisfied with the results.
- Create a no-spending month – it is impossible not to spend but getting the commitment of your family not to buy luxury items for a month will not only help you save, you also become more aware of unnecessary items.

Hehe, I really like the absurd of No. 5 - save money by paying your debts
Otherwise you’re right though
Buying in bulk is a great idea. Any way you can save a little here and there will add up to big savings down the road. You need to look at the big picture when it comes to savings.
