5 Most Greedy SEO Practices

The greediest SEO practices may not always be the most effective ones. Sure, you can benefit from your tricks over the short term but it will most probably catch up to you in the form of penalties or even permanent ban from search engines. But notice that not all greedy SEO techniques are bad, you just need to choose one that will be advantageous for your website.

  1. Cloaking – this is a tactic wherein the content shown to search engines is different from the actual content your visitors see. Cloaking is a spamming tactic to get higher rankings with search engines. It is also used to trick searchers into visiting a website due to its well ranked landing page.
  2. Aggressive Link Building – building relevant links from third party websites is a good way to increase your site exposure. Links are effective for increasing your traffic count as well. But if you intentionally build an enormous amount of links overnight to get higher rankings, search engines will most probably identify you as spammer. For example, if your site has been running for 3 years and you’ve created 100 links throughout this timeframe, the engines will know something is not right if you suddenly acquire 5,000 links.
  3. Improper redirects – redirecting may be one of the tactics that never go out of date because it is a necessity. Redirecting from one webpage to another page can have good impact on your rankings as well. However, you will most probably get banned from Google for using improper redirects.
  4. Title page abuse – the web page title plays one of the most important roles in determining website ranking. It is recommended that you avoid using titles that are much too similar to the other pages within your website. Also, it has been observed by many specialists that 5-7 words provide optimal results.
  5. Frame sets – taking advantage of frames in order to show different pages in one browser can cause adverse effects on search engine crawlers. In most cases, the crawlers are only capable to index one page so the others are left in the cold. My advice would be to avoid this practice, as well as the other ones in the list in case your website has any value for you. Recovering search engine rankings can be very costly.
