Black Hat SEO and Why It is Not So Black Hat
It is not vise to compare black hat vs. white hat SEO. It can be really frustrating when you see marketers arguing about who is ethical, who isn’t, who is superior, or who is inferior. Both sides have their own reasons for doing what they do but the argument isn’t doing anyone much good. So once and for all, here are some facts you should know about white hat SEO but above all the black hat SEO.
Is Black Hat Better?
No. Don’t believe anyone who claims to be an expert in white hat or black hat SEO. It is impossible to understand one side without knowing the techniques used by the other. Tell experienced marketers that you are a “white hat guru” all you want but they’ll never believe you if you know nothing about black hat SEO (which many consider to be a more advanced SEO). The opposite is not so true about black hat experts, since most of them probably know the white hat techniques but go beyond them.
The Rules are Constantly Changing
With the search engines algorithm constantly changing it may be hard to predict when you stop being the white hat guy and turn into the black one. A lot of techniques that are now considered to be black hat used to be legit until some folks overused them. There is a thin line between the two and some experts cross this boundary when push comes to shove. Loopholes in the search engine system exist and every marketer wants a piece of the action. But it is always better to stay at the top rather than only have your 15 minutes of fame and go down as fast as you reached the top.
What about Ethics?
The thing is, all marketers will exploit any loopholes in the search engine to rank higher. This is what the game is all about, this is what SEO does. Whether you’re black hat or otherwise, you are guilty of this because you’re an internet marketer; you have the desire to rank higher. White hat techniques today can turn black hat tomorrow once they are abused.
Ranking better because you understand the rules isn’t the mistake; it’s a mistake if you don’t take advantage of the opportunity when you know its there and you know how to exploit it. So the real question is not whether black hat SEO or white hat SEO is better, it’s how well you understand the game.
