These Evil Splogs

21 October 2008 273 views 7 Comments

Talking about Splogs (Spam Blogs), I’d like to agree with many Internet moralists that these sites may be unethical, fake, etc. However in the times of economic crisis (or any other times when you can justify some slightly unethical ways of making money :) ) when you might have less money to buy backlinks this is an effective way of promoting your ‘white websites’ and ‘earning’ some extra money at the same time .

I would not agree with those who say that Splogs don’t bring any positive user experience. It is not true about the properly made and maintained Splogs.

There’re two types of Splogs, automatic and manually maintained.

To create an automatic splog you need to:

  • Install wordpress to your server
  • Download and install one of the following plugins: WP-Autoblog, Feedwordpress or WP-o-Matic
  • Find RSS feeds to subscribe to

And that’s it, you’re done. If you don’t wish to host your splogs on your own server you may also want to create splogs on Blogspot . Don’t even try Wordpress.com though, this will be a loss of your time as Splogs on Wordpress.com are identified and removed within 24 hours+WP.com does not allow Adsense.

Splogspot.com is a search engine for Splogs and ‘click my adsense’ blogs. If you make a search there you will probably see that most of the listed sites are hosted on Blogspot.

Anyhow, this is all I have to say about automated splogs.

I need to say that one ‘properly made’ and manually maintained splog, even on Blogspot, is better than a 100 automated ones. Here’re two examples of well made splogs:

EXAMPLE ONE

EXAMPLE TWO

Why? These Splogs are user friendly. They were not made for search engines but for real visitors. There’s excellent design, well organized sections, working RSS feed. All the information on such Splogs is manually selected from the most popular resources on the net and is properly referenced. Only fresh content is used so it is not identified as duplicate instantly.

Real people visit these sites, they read articles, subscribe to RSS feeds, click your ads, etc. These Splogs are much more effective than the automated ones, since they bring real returning traffic which may be redirected to your other sites. Within the first month such a Splog can bring up to a 100 unique visitors a day and up to a 1000 within half a year.

You will not earn a living from Splogs (perhaps some $300-400 a month from ads), but you will have a very powerful traffic source which your competitors might not have.
