New Gmail themes

20 November 2008 117 views 2 Comments

Yesterday Google launched their new Gmail themes which allow every user to customize the layout of his e-mail box. Google team has announced they will provide this new function to all Gmail users within the next couple of days. Now my 4 out of 6 accounts (yes, I have 6 actively used Gmail accounts and an account manager) all have different themes. My favorite one so far is the Ninja theme.

Google has always been known for its constant brand, cleanness, and minimalism, so this step towards the mainstream (read MySpace) user expectations may seem slightly out of the ordinary. However it is clear that with these cute little innovations Google will be able to target new markets outside the usual techies.

Designers get ready! Soon Gmailers will get bored of using the 30 themes available today and will want more. So perhaps it is time to start developing Gmail custom templates!

I think it is a great idea, so now I chose theme “on the beach”, and I like my gmail now very much.
