Russians will help American porn survive the recession
Almost all the industries have been hit by the economic crisis, porn industry no exception. It seemed obvious that people would rather save on dating and try to find distractions from work-related problems in virtual reality worlds and porn. However, after Larry Flint, the Hustler publisher, asked the United States Congress to allocate five billion dollars to bailout the adult entertainment industry, it became clear that no one is immune to recession.
Russian company Elecard, a provider of video compression technology and high quality software products for video and audio playback, multimedia content preparation and streaming has announced a bailout plan for the US adult entertainment industry. The plan will allow eligible adult content providers to use Elecard’s software worth up to 10K free of charge until April 22, 2009.
“It’s the least we can do for such an important business,” said Andrey Posdnyakov, President of Elecard. “If you think the Internet was made by the scientists working on the ARPANET project in the mid 1970s, you are wrong – it was made by the adult entertainment industry in the mid 1990s! This is our economic stimulus package for the companies that have given us so many stimuli.”
It is clear that the Russians, besides their desire to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America, which is now also in recession, wanted to get some PR as well as bind a number of porn companies to their software hoping to someday manage a share of enormous porn revenues.
I wonder how many more IT companies will turn to extravagant marketing actions before the crisis is over, however overseeing the situation is quite inspiring.
