New real-time website value calculator

11 February 2009 392 views 18 Comments

There are plenty website value calculators out there on the Internet. Some of them provide us with hope that our web creations may turn out to be the golden seeds, some abuse us with sheer disappointment. They take into account domain history, number of backlinks, Google PR, Alexa rank, technorati rank, etc. So far, my favorite tool was Dane Carlson’s project powered by Technorati API.

However recently I’ve encountered a brand new value estimator tool called Stimator, which does the same calculations as all the others but it also allows you to collect information from financial markets (info from Yahoo Finance), and takes into account the strength of a top-level domain (.com VS .info VS .us, etc).

I quickly ran this tool for i-trepreneur.com and you may see the results below.

Even though Dane Carlson’s tool makes me happier about the bright future of my Internet projects, I just feel Stimator is more trustworthy. I attribute this to the fact that Stimator actually shows how the calculations are performed and what factors are taken into account (it is also quite entertaining by the way). Certainly to receive a correct estimation you’ll also need to add your affiliate, advertising, and other earnings on top of these calculations, however so far the info provided by this tool is above average on the web. Congrats to the developers!

I always wonder about these. They told me once that a site I had bought for £5, and spent aound an hour on was worth $900. I’m sorry but I don’t beleive that. It is nice to see how they reach their conclusions though.

I think that this will specifically be more useful than other web value calculators available since it is collecting information from the financial markets, which is more helpful for entrepreneurs needing all of that financial data.

For some reason I couldn’t find the link to Dane Carlson’s calculator, but the Stimator worked well… not sure I agree with the results, but it does work. The $80K for my San Diego real estate site sounds like a foreclosure property price. I think I’ll keep it ;)

No calculator is better than manual research! But I find that numbers from both the calculators could be taken for reference somewhat reliably.

    Hi! You should also consider
http://www.estimix.com They provide a nice summary of the website performance. I trust that you’ll find this very useful cause it seems to use the Alexa traffic information quite well and provides much better traffic information.

What about free domains and blogs can we check through this?

Can any of these actually give an good estimate. Ive used many before, getting my hopes up, but realizing its worth no where near what the estimates says. Not that I would sell any of my websites. Ill give stimator a whirl tho.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the valuable info, when valuating a website you should also consider http://www.websitevaluebot.com as it will give you a value based on every aspect of the fundamentals of a website except for revenue which is the only real way to work out a websites value.

Monthly revenue times 6-12 depending on brand name, age and content is the true website market value which is why no website estimator online is accurate.
